And living in an increasingly alien society.
They're not aliens they are Aussie or at least Aussie to be ;D.

Just got driven to Moorebank by a cab with an Aussie from Bangaldesh (10 years). Started quite but we had a good old chat. Ya should have seen him when I shook hands at the end ;D.

This one of the most condescending posts I have ever seen :(. Do you try to have a deep meaningful discussion and shake hands on parting with all your cab drivers or only the ones you recognise as a new Australian who you feel should be treated somehow differently to others?

This in itself is one of the worst forms of racism :-[

Brazil etc.Its manipulation and in the end countries like ours will suffer. In Brazil the Gov has taken counter measure ( which I dont fully understand) but so far our Gov has done zip.

While on the subject of Brazil..Coffee  ;D  has gone through the roof in price and the coffee shops are feeling the pinch, with staff also gone/going north for bigger $$ ,they have said in Perth this week 11 coffee shops have closed there doors..
Wine in the south here and SA is also falling.
White Paint for panel beaters has also a back log due to Qld floods etc.
So not too good in some sectors for the little fellow..but as VMX42 mentioned before it all comes and goes in waves  ;D
cheers A

Your post is condescending to the gentleman of Bangladeshi origin not me or anyone on this forum. Surely you see that treating someone differently just because you recognise them as different is racism and/or discrimination ::). The same reason that handing money to Aboriginals does not fix the problem just reduces our guilt.

The reason this form of discrimination is probably worse than the ugly form of racism you obviously recognise is that it is a clear statement of feeling superior (you felt that speaking to this gentleman obviously made his day) and you get a warm glow on the inside. Just treat everyone equally with the same rights and status.

I am not entirely sure you will get it given your original post and your previous moral high ground posts. So lets leave it there.

MX250 you have not done anything wrong by chatting to the cab driver and shaking his hand. Monty, did you read that correctly or am i missing something here. It would seem that someones being oversensetive and negative. I have made it my business to welcome the odd one out, It may be talking to some dude in a wheelchair ata nightclub or sitting at the same lunch table as the chinese guys at work is that also condesending.
As for the aboriginals - I really feel for thier situation, did anyone see how Mal Brough was trying to sort out that situation when he was minister for indigenous.... . I honestly would not know if Mal was Liberal or Labour, but i think his strategy may have worked in the right direction given more time.

Well Brett it is if you then feel the need to spread the news of your good deed to the world. This indicates that you felt you did something exceptional or special for this person at some expense to yourself. This means that you recognise or feel the action was out of the ordinary or special and requires recognition.

Maybe I'm wrong but that is the way I would feel if someone went out of their way to talk to me in a similar situation only to then broadcast to others 'hey look what I did'. The fact the recipient of your perceived good deed does not know matters little.

I am sorry if that is not your view and it also does not mean I disagree with MX's endeavour to highlight someone else’s racist statement just the example or method used. As I said it seems to me to be as equally sad as the ugly form of racism he was trying to highlight.

Greg

Lets leave it at that as this is really highjacking this thread.

So you have said your bit and expect others to swallow this crap you are spreading and not reply due to high jacking of a thread? I am sick to the back teeth about people like you pulling the racist card every time someone even looks like saying something that MIGHT offend. Next the colour black will be stricken from the English language just because someone might take offence to it. You either work for a current affairs program that throw this shit around to sensationalise and entertain the sheep for half an hour or you are just one of the sheep. Get away from the TV and go work on your bikes.FFS.

Thats the play.US is deliberately devaluing its currency and sending capital overseas to places like OZ , Brazil etc.Its manipulation and in the end countries like ours will suffer. In Brazil the Gov has taken counter measure ( which I dont fully understand) but so far our Gov has done zip.

Ah an intelligent comment, what happens in currency markets has nothing to do with being Aussie, whose driving your taxi etc.... it has a massive amount to do with the the US who is the worlds largest economy and the EU trying to absorb the effect of the sovereign debt that was issued during the stimulation of the economy. Not to mention with Aussie entering an inflationary cycle then they offer great interest rate yield.

How you read this into what I wrote I have no idea.

You couldn't be further from the truth or the intent if you tried.

I don't believe that the US is deliberatly devaluing the dollar .What I do believe is that the US$ has been based on bullshit for years and the 'pidgeons have come home to roost'.
Maybe some might think this point of view is simplistic however in my lifetime I've seen face value observations turn out to be accurate more times than not.
Notice how the US$ goes up and down like a yo yo where as the OZ and Euro remain reasonably stable.
To me the erratic behaviour of the US$ only occurs because the world trades in US$, my feeling is that if world trade was still in gold bullion [not that I advocate that] the US$ would take a permanant dive.
As far as deliberately holding currency down, its obvious that China is doing just that and while countries continue to do that stuff and doing sneeky underhanded and undercover trade protectionism Australia will have difficulties with trade.

Unfortunately human nature and greed are closely linked.   Who is immune from that? cheers pancho.
dont follow me i'm probably off line!

I don't believe the US is deliberately devaluing, as 'stimulation' the US created a huge amount of debt in sovereign bonds and it has to recognize those in USD ..... so you have a potential disaster with large over supply of US based debt. Ultimately everyone is effected, the stability of the USD is essential to world trade/

How do press the Reset button, Wasp? Only answer I can think of is war. A massive global depression would probably do the trick too.
Seeing as they're the two things that the global economy tries to avoid, the 'cure' would be the disease, surely?

Mal Brough's take on the NT intervention was one of the crappiest things that the Howard govt did. It was all about appealing to city voters. They did everything that the report told them not to.
This is not a bleeding heart comment - I totally agree that something had to be done, but there's a big gap between "fixing the problem" and "looking like we're getting serious". Brough went for the latter at the direct expense of the former, as the issues in Alice Springs demonstrate.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Oh, and Brad... Greg's broad political views are further to the right than your own - he's no latte sipping hipster!
I think he's read too much into MX's comments, but his basic point is valid - if you treat someone differently simply because of their skin colour,  then you are being racist. Even if you're being nice to them.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.
