Now THAT was fun
« on: March 24, 2011, 10:35:20 pm »
Finally made some progress towards doing some dirt track. I got the YZ125 sorted - 18" rear wheel and Michelin tyre, new piston and a few little odds and ends. So I took it out to the ACTMCC dirt track practice morning last Sunday. A little rusty to start with but soon felt reasonably at home, and by the end of the morning I was starting to generate some speed. Too tentative to really hook it into the tighter corners but had a ball holding it flat up the hill through the big sweeper. Man that is FUN!! The little YZ seems to have some poke - I managed to latch onto a KX250F and found I had just a little more than he did up that hill and managed to get by him, so the bike is competitive. There's a club day here in 2 weeks so hope to make it out there for a ride. Love that dirt track!

Now, if I can just get the 75 RM125 running in time, I'll take it out to make up the numbers in the old bikes class.

BTW, ACT racers may know who he is, but there was a guy there on an RM500, #771. I saw the bike today at the bike shop in Tuggers. Whoever was on it was going pretty quick, looked and sounded brilliant...

Yep, at this stage I reckon I'll be there. Bit rusty and slow, but there just the same. And still idly thinking about Action Park at Maryborough at the end of the year...

By the way, I haven't ridden a modern bike on a short circuit track since I think 1985. I did a little DT a few years back on an RM400N and I did a couple of Jack Hoggs on the Husky 500, but I haven't ridden anything contemporary in the time since I got back into dirtbikes.

The YZ125 blew me away - it went fast, it was completely neutral everywhere, the brakes just haul that thing to a stop like you wouldn't believe. I can't think of anything I need to do before I try racing it. Other than gearing that is, it was way too short on stock gearing!
