Round 11
July 30: Mile
AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships
Location: Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, Du Quoin, Ill.
Rosanna Grzebinski
    www.naactionsports.com

Vintage racing expert Don Miller, owner of MetroRacing.com,  :o  is the technical advisor of the AMA Racing Vintage Dirt Track National Championship Series. Miller said that his goal is to field motorcycles that capture the nostalgia of the past amid the excitement of a modern meet, while avoiding non-traditional modifications that violate the spirit of vintage competition.

"Year two as the AMA vintage dirt track technical advisor is on its way, and I couldn't be more excited," Miller said. "The series fared well for its first year and can do nothing but gain speed. Attendees and enthusiasts gave us some good feedback, and the rules were adjusted so every one can come out and race with us. Season two is going to be great!"

Thanks for all the support fellows, the American people have been friendly, generous and fun, Bill and Nancy have been fantastic.Left their place with everything but the sink (opps, have it too). The racing here is very similar to home, the meetings seem a little casual (no machine exam, enter championship on the day, etc) maybe we are from the nanny state.Carn't wait till friday (half-mile) then saturday(mile), 2 more rounds of the AMA vintage champs. Thanks to Jim and Alan for help with web-site.PS. Mitas worked really well, got real hot though (about 90mph on the half-mile, always in top gear) will use the dunlop Bill gave me at DuCouin.Lots of interest here to come over, thanks fellows.

From Pete today

Rapt, finally got a win(2) 750 hotshoe and the over50 class. Only qualified 3rd and 2nd, then put it together in the finals.
Mile tomorrow,up another tooth and hang on.18/42 that has to be quick,we may not be fast enough though there some fast bikes here and the mile will suit them. Thanks again Bill

Good one , Pete

I knew the Pete/Metisse combination would work well on the half mile.

This report from Peter this morning
Mile was an anti-climax,our bike was under-geared an although Bill was all go ahead and give it to it, I decided to just qualify the bike, scored a forth and then a big storm hit the place. The Rickman was running 18/42 conservatively 115mph and about 10mph slower than the lead bikes, fast place.Got a bunch of trophies though,2 for the wins on the half-mile,and another 2 for getting there a day early and entering the Rickman in the AMA Ameteur Grand National Twins Open, that give me the No 2 Plate for 2011. Ametuer National was decided on this week.Fantastic week of racing and great atmosphere, riders all helping oneanother, made some really nice people.
Gunna go an have a break before we go to Kanzas for AHRMA and VDTNA zone championships over 4 meetings and 3 tracks,Colleen willing.

Pete on the wide open spaces of the DuQuoin Mile

Pete with the Amateur National # 2 plate and trophies from DuQuoin

Great stuff, Pete and Colleen, congrats on on all your efforts AND the National Number 2 plate !!!
