Greetings from England...
« on: February 15, 2011, 10:03:11 am »
...where its cold, dark and wet as usual.

I'm Dick Tett and was asked for some input on the KSI debate, which I was happy to provide in that thread. Been racing too many years, pre-74 through modern, two stroke and four, MX, trials and enduro. Like many of you just going slower these days - as my mates say, can neither keep up or give up!

Got a CCM moneypit as well as the KSI but its not all exotica in my shed, most of my MX racing last year was on a stock '74 Montesa enduro, cash value about 200 bucks but a priceless part of the family for years and now being kidnapped by my 13 year old son. I ought to put a set of rings in it one of these years.

Welcome aboard Dick, and good to get your input into the KSI thread.  A CCM and a KSI and that 'modern' take on the KSI, all in your shed??

What's the airfare to the UK these days?

Welcome to the party Dick.....Now that I've got you trapped in a corner, What's the difference between the original Cheney XL Honda cantilever frame and the KSI? Did the latter directly evolve from the former or are they seperate entities all together?

Hello Dick, welcome.

I believe I have met you when I was still living in England (I'm in Adelaide SA now). It was at Farleigh Castle in 2007. Myself and my mate Colin were racing (*ahem* "riding") and we were parked up next to you, Neil (CCM 2stroke), Grouty (CCM) and Panles (Honda/Maico hybrid). The weather was on the blustery side.
I was riding a 1980 Cagiva 250 twinnie (I blew the bloody clutch up that weekend) and my mate was on a mark 12 'taco 370.

Glad to hear you're still racing. I'd like to get back to Farleigh at some stage.
No probs if you don't remember any of the above, just thought I'd mention it.

Regards,
Nathan (Hakan's beer stop)

I like you Dick. A man with some exotica and some common sense bikes to match as well. ;)

G'day fellas, sorrry for the slow reply - didn't expect replies to a newbie intro!

Pancho, I never owned a Yam dirt bike - no reason, love 'em, it just never happened. Yet :).
I have a YZ front brake on my KSI's - does that count? Oh, and there's an original HL500 in my shed but it belongs to a mate. Currently in two pieces after one of his frequent body/earth interface episodes.

Graeme, how do I get photos up? Have a KSI one for ya.

Firko, the Cheney 'cantilever' frames have shorter travel, a different headstock arangement, no bottom tubes, diffferent swingarm pivot etc etc. The first KSI frames were broadly related though - just a generation on.

Gord, WTF you doing on the forums? Back to the shed - you need that bike finished for the first Circa round. Only 5 weeks until the racing/beer/cream scones/Grouty sausages season starts...

Nathan, hi - remember it well. WTF you doing in Oz? Chasing a Woman? Avoiding a Woman? Avoiding the police? I'm jealous, weathers better in SA.

Freaky, I'll see what I can do.

66M, if I had any common sense I would have never have taken the moto-drug. (My old man used to call it rare sense, as it wasn't very common in his kids)

Finally, can one of you chaps kindly explain how I tell a Ford man from a Holden man? I understand it is all rather important?

Hi Dick,

Well, i got offered the opportunity to relocate to Aus, so I grabbed it!
The weather in Adelaide seems to suit me (so far). It's red hot, but with no humidity to speak of. Which is just as well as I really don't take to humid zones. Mind you, the Adelaide locals have told me that there hasn't been a heatwave this year. So I guess there will be a lot more heat coming along at some point, so I'll have to see how I get on with that when it arrives.

I don't have a bike at the moment. but hope to rectify that asap.

I'm chasing women as best I can. but as I get older, they seem to be able to run faster, while I run slower every day! (i think my life is turning into a Benny Hill sketch! :))

Anyhoo, good to hear from you, glad you remembered. Please say "Hello" to the Farleigh gang for me.

Nathan (HBS).

PS: The "Nathan" Davey Crocket mentions is not me (at least I don't think so), as I don't own, and have never owned a Volvo.
PPS: I still covet your KSI! ;)
