Yep, the 2008 Classic Dirt Track Championships were a complete success. Congratulations to the ACTMCC, especially the organising committee and a host of helpers. From the smooth organisation to the welcoming smiling faces, from the showbag of goodies at sign on to the never flagging canteen workers and top food, from the brilliant track to the just as brilliant weather, and finally to a fantastic two days of racing, it was an event to set the standard.
I had a top weekend, checking out the racing, amazing bikes, meeting new faces and generally having a good timje. The highlight for me was spending as much time as I could up by the canteen with its panoramic view of the track, watching the stunning display put on by the guys on the old 4-bangers - XT/TT/XL500s! Man those guys could ride and the deep throbbing tones of those exhausts was magic.
But really everyone put on a spectacle - the few old old bikes out there going faster than is decent for such things, the boys on the sliders, any number of old 2-strokes ripping up the track, the brilliant dicing in the Evo classes, and of course the guys on the moderns who showed us that dirt track action is still as hot as ever.
What a weekend. The only downer for me was that family commitments on Sunday arvo combined with the racing schedule falling a little behind meant I couldn't stay for the finals. I'm sure they were pretty damn good to watch though.
Here's a few photos I managed to take between races.
