montesa cappra 250 or rickman cappra 250

i have the choice of buying only 1 of the above.the monty 250 cappra is a 1968/69 and the rickman is the same eara with side pipe.the owner will only sell 1 so i would like other people opinion of these 2 bikes.i raced a 1968 in the early 70s and liked it

I think if comes down to appearance I'd have to go for the Cappra. Very sexy. The Rickmans look like they fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down (but so do the VE's and I love them!). Just make sure you get either of them.....

If the angular lines of the Montessa Metisse dont tickle your fancy then you can fit a body kit that utilises the curves of the Petite Metisse / MK3 Metisse.

The same kit also fits the Rickman Zundapp.

I think you'll find the Rickman is not pre70 legal whereas the cappra is, if that makes a diff to yr choice.

jim, buy the clock work orange model. they are very rare bike now, great looking bike. we owned the 360 69 model back then very fast bike on natural terrain.

As John says, I'ts doubtful the Rickman would squeeze into pre '70. Sure they're ugly but they're unique and actually lighter than a Cappra. Having said that I'd be going for the Clockwork Orange Cappra....cool bike and competitive in the class, Bill Brown's won a couple of pre 70 Nats on his bike.

Flower Pot Men...Bill and Ben....the Penny just dropped . I'm getting a bit slower on the uptake the older I get Ben, I didn't realise it was you . I owe you a long update letter so hopefully you'll get something before Christmas. As far as the MK3 fibreglass for Rickman Montesa and Zundapps go, I can fully reccommend Bens glass kit. The quality is unbelievable, far, far better than the original Avon stuff which in itself was excellent.

 I've been sidetracked on other projects and haven't got to start on my little Micro but I hope to get into it in the first half of next year. To keep the bike in line with my Cheney RT1 and Hindall DT1 I've decided to go with a DT1 engine to create a sort of Yamaha aftermarket framed trio. The Maico engine is going into one of my Sprite frames to build a replica of Terry Chalinors works Sprite of 1968.

I've competed on the 250 &360 GP models in the late 60s an early 70s, and can confirm their competitiveness, both on short circuit and scrambles.  The Rickman may be lighter, but doesn't compare for looks, especially that horrible looking expansion chamber running up the side of the bike!

The  genuine montesa cappra  250 1972 model ( grey ghost ) wasn`t a bad bike, l raced one and went ok on it same year rickman tried to copy, for me they didn`t succeed. Lyall O`Brien never sold them.
