Wooden Desk Resto....

...hows that for 'General Discussion'?  ;D

I might be pressing the limits here but I know how wonderfully deverse a group you all are; skills, knowledge and interests.

I have my Great Grandfather's hand made desk . It's in good condition but untouched in the last 100 years or so and I'm gonna give it a sprouce up. The top of one of the cabinets is wood about 300x300x 20mm. It has split and curled up about 5mm in the center. I could fill it and plane it down but there would be a less than perfect join/gap of about 5mm (mostly under the overhang and outa sight).

Any wood butchers think of a way to flatten the top?

Give it to someone who knows what there doing if its got a sentimental attachment, you may end up regretting it, you know the old saying, Jack of all trades, Master of none ::) or you could just leave it to its original Patina and ride it around the study ;D

Put a photo of your favourite bike carefully placed so it covers the split ;) ;D

MX250 put a picture of the desk up and show us your crack ::) bad choice in words and while your at it what sought of wood is the desk made of.jimson
