7.4 shake up at home
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:11:05 am »
Got a text 4.30 our time from my sister saying heading over to collect my parents.
Rang mum, ( late 70's ) to see how they where.

The house is 3yrs old but built at the coast New Brighton, reclaimed sand area, internal doors buckeled and twisted, water pipes broken in the wall, wall unit fell over, driveway broken up

Dad took charge grabed the torch and guided mum out the slider to the back yard, yelling  come on margerate follow me, where he then promptley disappered into a large hole.

When I spoke to mum she was nearly wetting herself telling me how funny my dad looked.

Good to know everyones ok, but poor sister looks like they will be with her for a while

saw the footage on the news this morning, looked pretty nasty. Although a couple of people were apparently hurt, I think they were lucky no one was killed.

I was there last weekend, talk about luck!!!.
My parents  are ok but my brothers older (1970's ) brick veneer house has been nailed, with big holes in walls, and more cracks than a Bangkok brothel.
Seriously its bad news, but a good time to be a builder.

My thoughts are with my Red and Black brothers.

just off the phone to my Aunty, she live 30kms south of Christchurch. She is ok, plenty of damage around, no power, water etc and plenty of big aftershocks.
