Not bikes but... story in the local paper recently about a nutter (?) who was adamant that a WW1 cannon of historical significance  was buried somewhere in the Echuca (i think) tip. Cost him heaps in time, money, marriage went down the gurgler and everone thought he was stupid, but guess what, he was right!! Eventually found it, and is now being retsored i think. Another urban legend- maybe- is local chicken producer HAZELDENES bought a XYGTHO in the early 70's, and later used it as a work hack, driving it into the ground before dumping it in the local tip about 1979. A friend of mines older brother worked there after school cleaning up chook shit, and claims that was the vehicle they used to tow the trailer.

Someone told me once that there is an oval somewhere (i cant remember, where exactly but i think in Vic or NSW) and he said there is a heap of old Indians and or Harleys burried under the oval.

You wouldn't want to know how many variations of this story I've heard . Somewhere out there one of these stories is probably correct but it has also given birth to the thousands of variations .

My father had a bike shop in Syd during the late 50 's and through heaps of Harley's away because no one wanted them.
Shame.

My father was in the arty during the war and were in the western desert they were issued with WLA's (the bike that won the war if you were to listen so some of the Harley faithful ). Dad reckons they were left where the were issued - they were a heavy useless piece of shite.

WLA's were still on the T.O.E. for many units such as the MP's into the 60's - and were just as popular .

pick me up some suzuki's Tim but on the gtho don't doubt that my dad was telling me when they were worth a bit at the start of them coming collectable a guy he new cut and shut a normal xy sedan rear into the gt front and you couldn't tell it would have happened to countless don't worry I have all the gtho posters on my wall but when you see one you think it is probably a mock up.
 
My dad nearly bought a yellow phase 2 ho and a monza green xy gt but that was when they were plentiful and cheap but then he said it wouldn't matter if he had of bought he would have writen it off eventually
I was looking at the local ford show and a lot have closed bonnets and a gtho badge on the glove box so you don't know.

The valiant database is really good we looked up an e55 charger a mate owned a long time ago and found it and it was the only 1 in the combination he had it but I have seen gt tags sell on ebay aswell as writen off e55 e49 and alike.

Around 1963 my mates and myself often played in a car dump just off Anzac Parade at Malabar. There were heaps of old cars dumped there including a '37 ford coupe that the bloke actually drove there. One day a tip truck came and dumped a full load of old motorcycles straight into the pit. I can't remember most of what was there but recall that most of them were complete and probably British. One of them I do remember was an ex Army Harley WLA that a couple of the bigger teenage kids dragged out of the pit and pushed home. Not long after they got those big crusher things in and compacted the lot before dumping tons of building rubble from the demolition of the old WW2 Army base at Pagewood. It's now a pair of footy ovals and netball courts.

Back when I was a skiboat builder, I had an old hull which was stuffed and IMO beyond repair. The day I dropped it off at the tip, was unbelievable, there were two guys arguing over it and it was gone before I was!
Then there was the early Ford Fairlane which some had turned into a convertable, complete with 360 engine and rag top, but fairly rusty and in poor condition. I was too young to realise and left it there, doh!

It is not all roses (as with everything) My working week(?) is every Wednesday, .....Saturday and Sunday.  Still wants like VMX and sidecars ,or life's needs like food ,shelter clothing being the choice. Cheers Tim the Tipman.....

me and me brother retrieved half a ke125 and a dt 100 from the local dump. while we were pulling them from the scrap pile the clock struck 5 and the bloke who was working there went home and locked the gates. we had to call our neighbour who worked for the council and had a key. but on the plus side we didnt need to pay for the bikes, not that they were worth much

it's amazing what gets thrown away.  Back when I was a kid in the air cadets - a change of government meant they disbanded for a period all air, army and sea cadets in Oz - everything that was owned by a local unit was dumped.  We had 303 rifles with 22 Morris tubes in them for indoor shooting - everyone of them was sawn across the barrel and dumped in the Derwent!  I thnk some of the smarter officers hid soem gear - such as our flight simulator

When I was a Kid the old man bought a block on Moreton Isl.
Some guys had decided to take their bikes over there and they ended up in the dump .
That dump is making news now because it,t reappeared to everyones horror
Anyhow I got a 500 AJ motor , mate grabbed a 500 Matchy motor { left the frames there } our neighbour got a real good 350 AJ complete , was sitting in his shed all wrapped up, probably still there.
We left the indian and the harley { not interested}
