As many people do, I live to ride-mx, trials, VMX, pit bikes, enduro's, off roads, adventure bikes and even bicycles. To me the nicest part is to try any form of two wheel motor sport on current and older bikes. it gives you an amazing perspective on riding and in turn life.
I had the ultimate day to day. I rode modern mx on a 1981 490. I lined up with many youngsters most of whom had never heard of a Maico, in fact most were not even born in 1981. I lined up against the newest bikes and the youngest riders. At 46 years of age and riding a bike that is almost 30 years old i went to the line. What a blast, sitting in top 3/4 when chain broke. it was amazing how many people were dissapointed that the Maico did nor finnish. The last heat of the day I rode a 505 2009 KTM - AT 46 years of age I managed to holeshot and make myself wide - very wide- probably irritated the guys behind me- but as they say that is racing. What a day, I finnished mid pack and enjoyed the track.
I am more and more convinced that you have not experienced mx until you have ridden an older two stroke and then see how easy mx when you get on a modern plastic.
Today I realized how luck I am to be able to cross over from modern to vintage at my convenience. I have no bias just respect for any champion regardless of when.
Tim I am hoping to ride a pre 1983 two stroke at the the Winterberg later in the year. This should be a blast.
