Surely it's time to at least consider the NZ vmx model, where they told MNZ to take a jump, sorted out their own insurance, and you can turn up with no race licence, no club affiliation, fork out your $30 and race all day.

Unfortunately that won't be the case for much longer, ACC has gotten sick of trailrides being run with no cover at all & leaving the taxpayer to pick up the bills. Because of them we're all being tarred with the same brush & ACC are going through the process of making it illegal to run an event not having MNZ cover

That would be very sad news if its true, since 99% of the money raised at these trail rides goes to local schools and charities. If MNZ get hold of the money it wont be seen again.
If at first you dont succeed, give up and drink beer

From what has been said it sounds like ACC want someone to lay down a few general rules for trailrides & a permit issued.
You're right about the money going to schools etc but they pay no ACC levy for the event & each A&E visit is billed at around $1500 with helicopter rides costing even more which is what they're unhappy about.
Having spectated at the Johnny Old event I would have to say that isn't the target as it was a very well run event-better than a lot of MNZ sanctioned events but lots of the trailrides aren't, you won't find that many stewards prepared to stick their necks out to help run a trailride as when something happens theres way too much paperwork including court appearances if the worst happens

Ok, Ok. I heard a whisper from a horse that the 2011 nats will be held in SA at Port Pirie. I can't remember the date because there were a few sherbets had before, during and after the conversation. I'm also told it will be an all in affair. Maybe somebody from MA could confirm all this as gospel and give us, the riders, a chance to work out our calenders and what we will and won't be doing next year......

Cheers
Mark
