Ripper photo that. Bike wise,.. the old  vs the new. On the outside a mk1 hagon JAP 500
On the inside a Godden Weslake 500 with what might be a 22'' rear wheel ?
Great stuff.     regards  Mark

Hope this clarifies things a little - it's a blow up from another scan, with a slightly more side on aspect.

Thanks for that BigB. It is a Godden longtracker with a 22'' rear wheel. MK3 Weslake I think.
Another great photo. Who is rider  563?  I reckon it might be late '70's.
regards  Mark

Yeah Hoony, there are a couple of things that I can see.
The overhead oil feed is on the left side of the  motor.
The ignition cover plate is alloy and hopefully has a W stamped into it.
The earlier ones had a plain chrome cover plate.
An all alloy finish. The earlier ones came with a black barrel. Some came  with a black rocker cover
The year?  seems about right.
And I've got one ;) And I hope I'm in the ball park

Not sure who 563 is, sorry.

This one is from 1979 as far as I can tell.  If you'd had the money in 79, what would you have bought?

You can't tell from that photo of Brisk Sales, but the bikes along the windows (behind the speedway bikes) are all Flat Trackers, and the second from the left (third from door) is a Big Bore Hagon Maico

Hi all
#563 is my brother chris murphy. chris and myself raced dirt track in qld in the 80s and 90s. the bike he is on is a hagon speedway springer with an 84s jap motor. I was working with bill McDonald at the time the photo was taken. it is a sieger frame. these frames were made by a gentleman that had worked building elstar frames. If you look closely at the eccentric chain adjusters on the swing arm and also the bottoms of the front forks where the axle goes through you will see the resemblance to an elstar frame. I will try to post some pics soon from the qld scene from that era. On another note yes that is tom Gibson sitting on the Kawasaki slider..... surely one of the most spectacular riders ever on a 125/250 two stroke slider, also very good on a 500 [ and trials, mx and road racing.]

Got a fair few more of your brother, Bill McDonald, Tom Gibson and A93 dicing a lot at that meeting - if I get a chance I'll post them.

Flattrackers or Longtrackers / Sliders ?
