Forum Upgrade
« on: December 06, 2009, 06:56:55 pm »
Later this evening or tomorrow morning I will attempt to upgrade the forum. I will lock it down at about 11 PM to do so.

The hope is that the new version will take care of some minor login and posting problems, as well as be more secure and prevent so many spammers trying to join. I'll backup first, so fingers crossed we can do it and get it back online afterwards!

Imagine if it all goes pear shaped! I might back it up, but last time I tried to restore anything from a backup, well...

If all else fails, the new site has a forum that I am not using. That's part of the reason I am am game to try this tonight - in the past I just haven't wanted to risk it.

Anyways, just 3 minutes till we close it all down...

Here I am at 11.10 pm and it still works. There's a lot of good stuff on here so I hope it survives.

OK well that failed miserably...  I'll have to try again another time, too late tonight.

It said it had worked, but now I am in here it's the same old same old.

Next time, maybe...

I've had a rethink and will try again tonight at around 9-10 PM. Once again, I'll lock the forum, and see how we go. It is possible during the process that accessing the forum will result in a page not found error, but don't worry about that. If I can't get it up and running tonight I'll leave a message about progress.

Nah, gotta go back to the drawing board. The standard upgrade seems not to work, so I am contemplating deleting it all and starting from scratch and then reinstall the database. But that sounds really scary...

So, I'll think about that a lot and try again next weekend.
