RS 250 Information
« on: December 04, 2009, 10:01:30 pm »
I know this model wasn't sold here, but has anyone got any info on the RS250? 1980 ish?
Specifically, was it closest to a PE or TS engine? Same with the chassis. Pe, TS or something unique?
Any other specs, info or photos much appreciated.  :)

The RS was a cheaper/gentler/slower version of the PE specifically for the USA market.
Reached into the parts bins for all sorts of odds-and-ends.
DS headlight, no speedo, bland porting, lower compression, Shocks and dampers softened.. (yes, really). I think they had the smaller RM tank. All sorts of left-overs got thrown together.

You do NOT want one unless the price is less than a can of beer.

I have some RS info up on my skydrive somewhere.

Hmmm.........  :-\
I guess Suzuki achieved their goal then, to make it look like a cross between and RM and a PE.  :D

Despite all that, I'm still interested..................... but remember how much I like SP370's....................  ::)

Tony Umm think about the model designation "RS"                Seems a bit Freudian......  :-*
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Honda also make/made an RS model Tim ;D one is their GP bike RS125 and RS250, another is the RS1000 endurance racer, another an XL250S engine in a streetbike frame from the early 80's the RS250, and don't forget about the Aprilia RS125, RS1000 and the RSV4 ;) The RS suzuki's on the otherhand appeal to me muchly as they're the sort of bikes I've always built..a piece from here and a piece from there..softer/lower suspension. The performance could easily be enhanced by bolting on the corrosponding PE or RM engine parts of which there is plenty available. The bike pictured below sold on eBay US last year for a touch under $2000US.

They were all pretty much an RM frame - just which RM is where it got interesting.
'79 - NO. The 1980 RS was the first year. The PE 1979 C/N engine is quite different to the T/X/Z engine. The RS is the T engine with bland porting, lower compression and 30mm carb instead of 34mm. The pipe was altered to suit, so avoid using one on a PE! Also the RM100T steel swingarm, not aluminium like the T/X PE's. Even the hubs/brakes were the smaller  RM100 ones, not the PE T/X ones, I think.
The RS250 was in a similar vein. The funky RS handlebars, an RM tank, stifled carby, stifled porting, same forks as the RS175, special softer rear shocks, the brakes off earlier models, and the rear wheel was DR400.
Note the DS185 headlight and  tail-light.  Parts-bins-R-us.
