and theres more  :P..................Chris Holder has taken out the 2011 Australian Solo Speedway Championship ahead of Darcy Ward and Davey Watt at Mildura, while Ward took the round win in an epic late-night race meet.

While reigning Champ, Chris Holder, seemed a certainty coming into the round, a niggling injury from the second round, and a series of crashes at Mildura, almost ruled out back-to-back titles for the Appin local.

As the mercury climbed at the Mildura track, so too did riders tempers when track work was called for, however with racing underway, fans certainly got their money's worth as the meeting continued into the early hours of the morning.

After four rounds and hours of intense racing it came down to the wire with Series leaders Holder and Watt both failing to make the B final and throwing the Championship points into disarray.

Solid performances from Ty Proctor, Kozza Smith, Justin Sedgmen and Kyle Newman saw them lining up for the B final with Newman proving the man to beat – progressing into the A final.

Joining Newman in the A final were two times Under 21 World Champion Darcy Ward, Rory Schlein and Cam Woodward, who would battle it out to determine both the round and Championship standings.

After a slow Championship campaign, Ward found form in the A final, leading in both the re-run and again in the final race to take the chequered flag - tying him on points for second place overall with Watt.

Lining up for the Run Off, Ward was a man on a mission, leading Watt from the second the tapes flew up, and occasionally looking back over his shoulder to see if he was home free before taking the flag and second place in the Championship.

Despite failing to make the finals, Holder's points buffer secured him the overall win marking his second consecutive National Title – and third Solo Championship.

Speaking after the event, Holder was happy with the win, however acknowledged it was hard won.

"I started off the Series quite well – I had a win but then in Gillman I had a big crash which hurt me pretty badly and it's been a struggle ever since," Holder said.

"I knew tonight was going to be the hardest round which it proved to be, and it was just good I had a win at Broken Hill to give me that buffer so I didn't risk too much tonight, even though I still threw myself on the track a couple of times tonight! "I'm stoked with the win, it's what I've come back for, and I've got to thank the other boys for the competition."

A 4th title doesn't look too prommising, still early days.
Crumpy 5 points, said he forgot to race at the opening GP.
Chris Holder faired a bit better with 9 points.
I don't know how to post a link but you can read all the news at the Speedway GP website.
Where is Alison when you need her?

Holder sitting in 5th & Crump in 8th, a fair way behind.
Good to see two old farts setting the pace, Hancock & Gollob.

As patriotic as I am, I also love a tryer, that's why I'm hoping Greg Hancock can win this years World title.
The little guy's been around for what seems like forever but hasn't quite had the luck to pull off the big one. If ever he's going to win a championship this has to be the year.

I'm pretty sure that Hancock won one real early in his career but even so he's certainly a persistant little bloke and would fully deserve another one.

You're right Steve, Greg Hancock won the title back in 1997...so long ago I'd totally forgotten it ::).
Seeing that it was 14 years ago gives an indication of how long he's been around.

If you did'nt get to watch the last round of the SGP from Poland early last Sunday morning do yourselves a favour and go to You Tube and in the space bar type in Torun Speedway Grand Prix of Poland 2011- Heat 12. One of the best I've seen. Sorry I dont know how to do the link thing. I reckon sliderulz might even have a little wet patch after watching this one if he has'nt seen it already.

OOOOOAAAAAAAGGGHHH, Viagra to an old Speedway rider.
More overtaking in 1 minute than an entire Moto GP season ;D
Darcy rode bloody good and even did a touch of grasstracking.
I had a long chat with Darcy's father up in Bris and they seem to be a great family.
He's got a big future.
Great footage of the speed difference between a bike getting drive and one that's spinning up.
Love it.

Crumpy 2nd and Holder 4th last weekend in Denmark.
Hancock 1st and looks to have it sewn up, his 2nd title and 13 years since his last, Mr Persistance.

Crumpy wins in Denmark and sits in second overall just 2 points behind Hancock.
Chris Holder had a dissapointing night but is still in touch sitting in 4th.
