What's my DT1F?
« on: September 14, 2009, 09:28:47 pm »
Hey all,

I just bought a DT1F.  Not sure if it's a DT3 or DT2.  It might even be a DT2MX.  Did they make a DT3MX?

It has a 21 inch front wheel.  Frame and engine number are DT1F-165817, which makes me think DT3 except that they are only supposed to be DT1F-135101--165633.

Only reason I'm wondering if it's an MX is that standard DT2 and DT3 came with 18 inch front wheels, didn't they?  Plus it has no electrics other than ignition.

Oh, and it's a reed block engine so not a DT1.

DT2/3 came with 21" fronts - maybe with the smaller wheel as an option, but I've never seen such a beast.
The early 250cc+ bikes had 19" fronts, rather than 18s, FWIW.

DT2MX had a different ignition cover, conical front hub and a different pipe, among other changes.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Thanks, Nathan.

I guess it's a DT3 then.  Just has a higher VIN number than the list I found seems to think possible but I guess the interweb's full of lies anyway.

And, it actually runs too.  Although the pipe has been squashed and filled with chicken wire, so it doesn't run real well.  Lucky I don't plan to use that pipe.

It has most of the engine covers too.  Just missing the little clutch adjuster cap.

Given the matching numbers, I'll use this one for the project.  Easier to register.
