« on: August 23, 2009, 11:29:21 am »
Well I finally went and picked my 1974 Montesa COTA247T up and brought her home! ;D

I still can't believe the old guy sold it to me for only $40!!!!!  It was used up in Northern Canada in the TUNDRA

when looking at the second photo, you can see that little round tube missing a cover, its mounted over the swingarm mounts, what is it used for?

Yes it's a tool kit holder.  I'm pretty sure I've got one of those in my pile of enduro bits, complete with lid, if you are going to restore the bike.  I've moved twice in the last 6 months, so it's in a box somewhere if you want it.

Hybrid, that would have been a bargain at $400 ;) - at $40 its a steal :o 8).

A great basis for a resto, and it will be a great trail bikes when you are finished.

I know, I thought my RM400 was a deal, but holy, I still can believe this, and yes I do plan on restoring it and playing around doing some trials trails, I will have to make my own course, as I do not know of any other than a couple 500KM away.   I always did like trail riding through rocks and logs slow.

I figured that was for tools,  does any one on here know of a kickstart from ANY other brand that will fit this bike so I can start to check why it doesn't have spark......that is what the previous owner told me.  I don't think he knew much about bikes at all, he seemed to think the bike would not start unless the rear tail light was switched to the on position?   Was he right?  I don't know, maybe? But i'd never heard of that before on ANY bike.

Well I think I have sussed out why it doesn't have spark, the points are not opening.  Where can a guy buy a flywheel puller?

Well that was simple!  Don't need a flywheel puller.  I pulled  the flywheel off, and the wire soldered to the condensor was broken, so I soldered it back on, set the gap on the points by eye, as I do not know what the gap should be ha ha.  And now I have a nice fat blue spark, cleaned my carburetor thoroughly, poured some mixed fuel down the spark plug hole, kicked it over and...............nothing............pulled the plug out, little bit of smoke coming out...........poured some more fuel in and kicked it over............and............nothing.  She just won't run?  What gives, any ideas? Has good compression too!?

Only needs 4 things to run.

Have you tried to roll start it, could be a little flooded

Sounds like you just need the air, spark and compression ;D.
