If anyone wants one, send me a PM. I have a couple, not enough to make 2 bikes, but maybe 1 & 3/4. One engine is virtually new inside, one frame has been powdercoated, 1 set of new nightmare plastics & decals. Make one good one, sell the rest off to help fund it or keep it for spares. There's also an '82 KX250 90% complete with 2 engines, one reconditioned. I'm kidding myself if I think I'll get to them in the next 12 months!
Cheers,
K

12 bids and $2750
For an un-restored bike this seems a little over the top.

I know of the KX500 but not a lot about them. Can anyone give an opinion on how much better (if any) the 84 was as opposed to the 83. And I'm talking out of the crate. Clearly there are a few guys out there who know plenty about this model and I would appreciate there input/opinion.

Whats going on here?
This bike is listed at $4000 "Buy It Now", diddn't hit the reserve as bidding topped out at $2840.

This bike is at $4990 in the bidding war with 6 odd days to go.
Is it better by $2000? (or more if the bidding continues)
Or are there some games going on behind the scenes?

For me, i prefer the old school look of the 83. With the safety seat and revised tank combination, the 84 takes on a more modern appeal (if that makes any scence on a 25 year old bike)
Performance wise the rear suspension is marginally better on the 84, a result of the bad press that the 83 got at the time.

Bahnsy i get where your coming from i prefer the 82 cr480 over the 83 just because they have more of that pre 80 look than pre 90

I have an 83 KX500 and was under the impression from another post on here that the 84 was the only one with the twin plug head. But my bike has the twin coils and is the original engine. The only thing suss is the top triple clamps and bar posts are painted dark blue like the SR500...not sure about that.
It's missing the kick start lever and the clutch plates. Motor is in a box. I bought it years ago for $500. I sourced out a brand new rearguard, rear wheel and a beautiful set of cases from a wrecker in VIC for $300.
Once again another bike I picked up cheap when no one gave a dam about them. I also have a 1980 KX125 A6 about 90% complete. Would like to start on the KX500 soon, never ridden one but the neighbour I bought it off was a nutter. He would ride it flat out at night sometimes with and without a dolphin torch on the handle bars, and he used to say the bike was mental?
