xl 500 jetting Query
« on: August 26, 2009, 04:29:31 pm »
I have a 500 xl project bike and need some jetting advice as Ive only ever played with 2 strokes...

I have a ex go cart motor running good but very rich (standard Keihin 32mm carby with a pod airfilter , standard headers and straight through 1 1/2" muffler (KX450F adapted) ( had 155 main, 135 is standard)

I have put in a 145 and its not bad now (still a bit rich) but low end response  has the "bog" if giving the throttle the quickest of blips.

Its not terrible, but if  I give it a little choke it loses the bog, so I need to richen it down low, but  is rich enough on top of the rev range.

Playing with the needle height is not really working. The needle looks really worn & thin, so probably needs replacing

My question is: Is the "slow jet" equivalent to pilot? I am tempted to drill it out. (size 100 at present)
Any advice on this ? The slow jet is bigger than standard

The air screw is doing sweet FA at present.Screwed in or out has no effect on idle.

The motor starts easily hot or cold

thanks
