Thanks Doc,
at the end of the Sydney Speedway season in the first half of 78 they had an " awards " article and I think I won a couple. There were a couple of mentions in 77 as well but I think I already have copies of those.
Steve.

Curly, I hope this picture doesn't ring too many 'alarm' bells but here's a small snippet from '77 that you may find of extreme interest ;) BIG bloody ouch! :o

speedway every Saturday night at the Ekka was standard procedure for me up to 1977. I was blessed to witness all the solo greats of this Golden Era of speedway 8)

Thanks Doc I've got that article and yes I can still feel it. 10 weeks in hospital, several opp's with plates screws, wire & pins and 8 months of work, 32 years on and now arthritis is the legacy.
The one thing that has bugged me from that article is that it was a glance to the inside as someone made a lunge going into the last turn.
At 17 it was the lack of experience that caused the accident as I tried to ride out of trouble instead of laying it down.
In fact the guy who passed me was and still is a close family friend but I've never felt any blame on him, it was simply a racing accident.
When you get time if you could look in the 78 copies I'd appreciate it.

I was there that night, I'd just come home from the US for my dads funeral and it was my first time at the Showy for 3 years, that's why your accident stays fresh in my head Steve. It sure was a nasty. You're so lucky that you're still upright and able to talk about it. There's a lot who didn't survive hitting that wall. :(

Piney, I remember the name and I will be there next weekend and I'm dragging Geoff Hart along as well, will be good to catch up.
Firko, Geoff Curtis was a mentor to Carl and always said don't ride the showground as it was to unforgiving ( narrow, fast & concrete ), it won't help you for racing in England.
They offered Geoff good appearence money to ride in the NSW titles and the rest is history.
Carl rode there one season and as he often did he left his own marks on the wall in several places.
When I started it was the only track running in Syd at the time and I was keen and 'Bullet Proof" and know I'm probably one of the lucky ones.

The '77/'78 Rev's Speedway articles are online if anyone else is interested. Not the best scans (photos actually) but if there is anything in particular you'd like scanned 'properly' then PM me the details ;)
