Bloody hell.......
« on: June 15, 2009, 10:36:51 am »
.......the main reason I took on the Lazarus project was that I was lead to believe that they were as rare as Rocking Horse poo ::), but here's another..........

(I think he's ambitious with the price unrestored :o, but we'll wait and see.)

There was only about 400 produced and 390 must have survived ::) :P.

As far as I know the rear loop is correct for '77 - the mudguard is wrong though - a long with about 10 other things like non-Amal levers etc etc ::). All add up to a pretty penny during a resto, and that's before you start stripping polishing and spraying. That plus the missing/non-working bits make me thinks its a bit ambitious.

But it looks fairly complete, nice and pretty to the red wine fueled novice in front of a computer so it will probably sell for a motza on EvilPay ;D.

I think the '78 VB didn't have the loop.

Looks ok but even if you lived in melbourne on the docks you would still pay 500+bucks for shipping. So 2500, It is getting up there.

So I think that would be the killer but there are some montesa nutz out there that will pay big bucks for the rare stuff as we all know.

'78 doesn't have the rear loop, '77 does. They are hard to find and if you want one the price aint that bad. '78 was the rarest.

The '78 didn't have the rear guard loop while '77 did. This bike also has a small tube running from the rear of the seat to the frame below the top shock mount on the left side, possibly a cracked frame repair? The '78 did have that tube on both sides to mount the remote shock reseviour from memory. The silencer exit has been extended but also seems to exit very low so I suspect that possibly the wrong airbox is fitted or no airbox and/or the pipe has been modified.

New genuine Amal levers are around $130 a pair and nothing else seems to work as well. That is before you start on the expensive stuff.

I didn't mean to be exhaustive but by looks it seems to have been loosely assembled for the photos. The tank looks to be sitting high at the front and other little details don't look right to my eye. I would rate it a real 'pig in a poke' if bought sight unseen.

Probably has greater potential than Lazarus but I wouldn't want to pay $2000 as the starting price for this orphan. I would guess another $2000 to get a rideable bike and another $1000-2000 to have a good restored going bike.  What's that, about $5-6000?
