help with exhaust bracket id - 79 yz125f
« on: May 07, 2009, 05:42:56 pm »
pick the experienced restorer....

when I first pulled the bike apart I put all the bits in baggies and labeled them. Now I've come to the end of the process and I've put everything together and like some bloody IKEA bookshelf I've got a bit left over.

I wrote exhaust bracket on the bag, does someone know where it goes or is it a ring in?

I dont recognize it and I just looked through the YZ125F parts list and there isnt anything that shape. I thought it might have been to hold the wires coming from the CDI but the parts list doesnt show anything and no parts look like that. Sorry I cant help Mainline

Thanks anyway DJ, I've got an original parts manual as well, and like you said, there's nothing in there that looks like that.

Having said that, the parts manual does have a few errors in it, the rear brake pedal/frame assembly for one. So I was thinking this part might have fallen through the cracks.

Thanks guys, yeah Jimson it does, and at the moment it's flapping around. I might have to spend a bit of time studying Bikepics.com and the like.

Should be able to unveil the finished item soon ;D

The guru is here.
It's a cane toad, an introduced species, a foriegner. It's not off a YZ125F.
It's too flimsy to be for a clutch cable holder but may have been a guide.
Does the holes line up with the spark plug coil? As said earlier it was possibly wire guide.
I'd say its off a DT or IT. Does it line up with the reed block bolts? What about tripple clamp bolts? What size are the holes, 6mm or 8mm?
It has a familiar look to it but I cant put my finger on it but it's not original.

Roll on Monza, I promise I wont have more than a dozen the night before.

PS Just kidding on the Guru quip

Do you have a Yamaha fourstroke missing a clutch cable adjustment bracket?
Looks alot like a xt550 bracket that sits down on the magneto side, the cable slides into the hoop and you adjust two nuts either side to hold cable in place.
.......or could just be a cane toad ;)
