YZ250/400D forks
« on: May 15, 2009, 09:01:49 pm »
Just looking to see if there is anyone out there with a set of '77 YZ250/400D forks, that they might want to sell . I don't know if the YZ125D forks are the same . It would be good if I could pick up a pair at CD6, to save on freight cost .

I am still looking for a set of YZ250/400D forks . The forks that E74 has, are not off the D model.

No spares, but I can tell you that all of the 125 forks are different to the 250/400D forks. The 125 forks of a similar age are 36mm and have less travel. By the time the 125 forks got to 38mm (125H), they had more travel than the 250D forks.

I'm pretty sure that 250/400E forks are visually the same as the D forks, but they have more travel (could be limited back, I suppose).
IT250/400D/E would be worth a look too.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

I have a set of YZ250E forks (maybe they are off an F ?) & they are slightly different from D forks, in that they have an extra dimple in the lower leg casting above the drain screw hole. The lower leg casting is also apparently about 20-30mm longer on the E  . I asked the question about the differences in Yamaha section a while back & received a reply explaining them. I know that I am probably being too picky, as the E forks are supposed to still have the same travel as the D, but I want to try & use correct pre '78 parts . There is a nice set of YZ400D forks on US ebay for $US50, but he wants $US179 to ship them  :o.
