kidney belt
« on: May 15, 2009, 02:14:08 pm »
We've talked about helmets, knee and kneck braces and good boots but the good old fashioned kidney belt seems to be a forgotten piece of protection. As an old rugby player I know so well what a whack in the kidneys feels like and it ain't an experience I'd like to happen again. Kidney belts are the cheapest frorm of body insurance we can use. http://easterndirt.com/wp-content/themes/mimbo/?p=1080Ne

I normally run 2 blets..err..fug! belts I mean ::) I find if it's anything rougher than a fire trail after about 20 minutes without a belt I can ride no further and can barely sit up due to pain that feels like a really bad stitch but on both sides of the lower back. Also helps the the broken bits of my busted L5-S1 vertibrae stay in place. I swear by them cause without them I'm buggered ;)

An absolute must.  Keeps everthing intact,  and even keeps the back from over-arching when you get bucked.  I am sure there is a bunch more important benefits.

Interesting that they are not worn so much now days as the kidneys and the adrenalin glands are still situated right next too each other---maybe that's the problem ?  ;D   ;)
cheers

I recently bought two old 'back in the day' kidney belts from eBay, but I haven't a hope of wrapping them around my gut! :-[
I know I was thinner, but were none of us fat back then? Did one size fit all? :-\

I agree with you all - a great piece of kit, functional and necessary.

I use the widest one I can find and look for one with some lower back protection.
I put it on early and it usually stays on till I get the bike loaded. It helps to hold the insides in place but most of all it provides back support.
The older I get, the faster I was
