I got a pack of this stuff in the $2 bin at Supercheap. Recommended for 'highly agressive exhaust silencers' :P mine are pretty tame..anyway regular price is/was $9.95 and it comes from the place below which is on Brissy's Southside ;)

That’s interesting because I thought silent sport packing was a matting type of packing and not the loose strand type. I was happy with the matting type of packing and that was really quiet but now I’m wondering if that wasn’t Silent Sport brand and was something else. I’m not sure if I should go for the matting type that you roll up around the tube or use the loose strand stuff

Hi all,
Just rapped my 73 XL 350 peter allen power pipe muffler with the mat type of packing I went from 114 db down to 103 db I also drilled all the holes in the perforated tube out twice as big as they were This has started to do the trick. I will now rap the out side of the header this should bring it down to 100db or there abouts

Cheers
Fatboy

Leith the matting is for the wrap around type inner cores and the loose fibre is for the type you have to jam in with a reamer (aka big screwdriver) take ya pick  ;)

I sell muffler packing but I can see now I should have given it a trendy name. I was talking it over with my marketing consultant (my wife) & I said "Whispering Geoff" has a nice ring to it, she replied "Silent but Deadly" might be more appropriate. I asked her why she would want to name it after the dog, but she just turned & walked away. ::)

Silent but Deadly muffler packing as per my price list on the front page. The wool matting sheet is big enough to repack 6 of my mufflers.
Use the sheet to wrap around the core or slice into strips to poke into muffler bodies.

You can, but they get hammered by the exhaust and the heat and you need to repack them before too long. Silentsport and "Whispering Geoff" :D are the way to go, but batts will get it done in the short term.... 8)
