Another TM125
« on: April 07, 2009, 09:19:36 pm »
I've just finished my TM125 although it is having a few problems with loading up at lower revs. I know just rev the S out of it and it'll be ok ::).

The bike came from the local dump shop for $40.00 with no tank, side panels, airbox or oil tank and just a rusty seat base. The guards were black from someone trying to burn the paint off them (nice shade of gold). It also had a TS125 ignition and pipe with no end cap. The motor turned over but I didn't try to start it. I owe a big dept of thanks to the Doc and Graeme M for parts and assistance on this project. I also need to thank Jimson, TM Bill, lozza and if I've missed anyone else I'm very sorry.

The motor has had everything, nearly anyway. Rebore and piston, rod set, all bearings and seals. I've re-installed the oil injection and chased up as much original stuff as I could within reason. I'm not going to pay a million $ for that last "proper" nut and bolt.
The rear shocks are YSS and it has YSS PD valves. When I get it to run properly I'll let you know how they work.
This bike is a 10 metre restoration, looks good from 10 metres. It's built to race and I figure when I can no longer ride it, then I'll restore it.

This is a before shot but unfortunately I didn't get a pic when I bought it home. This shot is with a TM pipe, seat, tank and side covers I had collected for it

and this is how it looks today

I'm hoping to get some time to sort running problem after Easter as I have some gardening to catch up on.
When it's sorted I'll run a few local races.
Next up is another XT500 race bike and my TM/S185 VInduro bike.

Looks great Brent ;D always nice to see another TM resurected from the ashes. Interested to see how the shocks work on the little beasty but they kind of make the front end look a little spindly :P that is in no way meant as any form of detraction moreso a compliment on the nice shocks ;) paintjob looks the goods too, very worksy ;D

Thanks guys,

Doc that tank is the race tank. I have two others that will be painted and have proper L model stickers applied. One good one for this and one for the 185.
I know what you mean about the forks, I'm waiting for them to break! Especially since I'm fitting a 43mm front end to the XT. What a difference :o

Gnomester, I was bidding against you on that one. There's some handy bits on there.

Jimson, I've only briefly ridden with the shocks. Once I acepted I only had 4"of travel intsead of 9" I realised that they were working quite well. A longer ride with a properly running engine and I'll have a better idea.
Bathroom hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Cheers

Brent
