Where can you get "plain" leathers?
« on: March 26, 2009, 01:37:48 am »
I want some plain Jane motocross pants. Black, maybe a stripe or two down the leg, nothing else. I don't like what metro is putting out. I would even pay a custom stitcher for a pair. Anyone know of a supplier?

Road bike pants are the closest item I can think of.
Getting them made can cost just us much,if not more as a new pair.  8)

I am reviewing some riding gear for Issue 38 of VMX that fits the bill.  Plain black pants (and jersey/gloves) that so far seems fantastic.  Do a search for Acerbis Moto Korp.

Regards

Ken

Do they have any without the giant "Acerbis" across the arse?

Plain leathers?! Mate, I spent a fair chunk of my life trying to track down 'plain leathers'!
Like the dinosaurs they've dropped off the Planet... well almost.
Try this bloke:

Doug Tyerman
DBT Leathers
436 Hume Hwy Yagoona NSW 2199
P: 02 9790 1235

He's a busy man but he still does custom leathers in the old MX style.
He sent me an order form and instructions on how to measure for correct fitting etc.
Seriously, I looked and Googled and phoned for months trying to track down plain leathers.
It's all 'bling' and busy colours off the racks in the current MX scene (but you've noticed, ay?).
The 80's 'happy pants' had less colour! ::)

I'm pretty sure they're also available from the Vintage Iron mob in the USA, but they equate to approx $800 Aussie. Check their website - or buy local for about half.

Good luck with that.

do you actually want leathers or nylon Motocross pants? some people just call all bike pants 'leathers' so thats why i asked. if its leathers you want, try a speedway gear shop/supplier or a bike shop who sells leather pants for road riders. They are definitely still available. For plain looking motocross nylons first place i would of suggested is Metro Racing, or look on ebay for some old skool Malcolm smith or Hallman pants for example.

Thanks LWC3077 that's handy info coz, like cultofthumpers, I'm still chasing something a little more 'period'.

I've tryed e-bay for 'old skool Malcolm smith or Hallman pants' but unfortunately I've doubled in size since the good old days.
You skinny blokes should be OK when the 'deceased estate' MX pants come onto the market. :D ;)
I've also noticed Kevlar appears all the rage for Speedway nowadays.
Must be good stuff, ay?

Me, I'll keep looking...
