Hi my name is Rory. It's my first post on this forum.
I owe a lifetime of riding to Lansvale. Back in 73 I took a Yam 125 twin road bike to ride there as I lived not far away in Marion st Bankstown. I had family in Georges Hall.
I enjoyed it so much I was motivated to ride in to the George st cinemas to watch a new movie just realest, On Any Sunday, (Brian Brown, Endless Summer). Got a parking ticket too, the first of many encounters with the law.
Within a month I had purchased a second hand DT2(red) $400. It had originaly come from Brian Collins Yamaha in Parramatta. It sported a 21 front wheel and a high front gard. You could buy a new DT3 (Green) from the Yamaha dealer in Bankstown for about $750.
Met another DT2 rider in Georges Hall, Peter Spiller. We traveled across the Alfords Point ferry and up the hill to the power lines at Meni where we descended a hill to cross a creek and follow this difficult trail towards the old brick pits. We never made it as we stopped to help a bloke who had broken down on a Kawa 250. John Alback was his name . He used to race go-carts. He was so grateful we ended up back at his place at Bexley for dinner.
John introduced us to riding at Terry Hills. He also organised a ride at Wisemans Ferry. The idea was to go up the dirt roads and across the range to Rylstone. The only map we had was an article in a "just released" bike mag called Trail and Track. Of course we did not make it on that attempt.
Lansdown, and the big hillclimb on the other side of Henry Lawson Drive, certainly bring back memories for me.
