I'd say Mr Motocross '83. Is it broadford? From far left Moates, Gall, Vandenberg on the Suzuki, Leisk on Honda, Trevor Williams Kawasaki, maybe Deakin #17.

A good start. The year is right but the event isn't.
Hint...... it was the debut of the CR500RE in Australia. Jeff Leisk on it obviously.

That's it! November 1983 for the Aussie Titles.
First time I wandered out on the track to take photos seriously (?) with my Zenit E 
Other guys were getting kicked out but I just kept my head low and stayed out all day.

was that the year vandenburg did his knee in?

if so it virtually ended his career then and there as he never fully recovered.
i made the trip over from melb that year and also remember Russel Bergemier winning the 500 sidecar class (on a Weslake twin) and then retiring as that was the last goal he wanted to achieve.

Yeah hoony i think he did his knee at the end of the year after he'd won the Mr Motocross crown. The injury stopped him from defending his title and pretty much ended his career. I saw him ride at Broadford that year and he was unbeatable around that track.

that RM he rode was a real powerhouse, Vandenburg was a slim guy and i reckon weighed about 65-70kg he was very strong to hold onto that bike as it really had some horses.
