Hi, could anyone tell me if the sizeing of different makes of jets are the same , eg; mikuni 120 and amal 120 are they the same size ?

The way Mikuni main jets are sized is some what confusing, but try the link below, it explains it.  You will probably need to read it the 3 time it says to really get it.

I am note sure about the exact way Amal jets are sized, but since Mikuni refer to there large hex jets as "Amal" type jets one would assume that they are sized the same way.

 coljay i'm not sure where i read it once may have been in "tuning for speed" but my recolection is that amal jet sizes referred to cc's of water passed through the jet in 1 minute. probably not that simple--there is probably a specified head [pressure] involved. cheers wally.

mikuni hex jets are similar if not the same as used in type 29 amals(referred to as the std carby ,remote float bowl),note,this is pre monobloc kiddies ,i've downjetted early matcho/Ajs using the mikuni hex jets in the type 29's,works for me,not to be confused with amal jets from the later monoblocs/concentrics which indeed are flow rated,(might be wrong but i always thought mikuni "R" series jets ,like dellortos were hole sized metric,ie #140 is 1.4mm),here endeth the lesson,
