Bigger,wider footpegs without spending big $$.These cheaper ones are they crap...are they Ok...? What about GMC footpegs (complete peg or the add-on extra bits). Whose using what.

I suppose it depends on the make/model? I bought some modern YZ125 units off ebay for the old YZ, I needed to trim a bit here and there and modify the modern return springs to make them work but their a definate improvement on the old ones.

If you have a Suzuki they don't need to be replaced.

Gidday Mainline.  I'm about to do the same thing as you.  What/how did you modify the springs to make them work and did they end up OK ?

it was fairly easy in hindsight. I can't find the seller i bought the pegs from,it was a fair while ago. But they were basically a copy of the modern YZ pegs. I had to trim a few mm off the width to get them to fit in the old footpeg brackets and re-drill the old brackets because the new pegs took a larger diameter bolt.

The footpegs springs were off a current model and needed to have one coil cut off and the end re-bent to work in the old bracket.

if ots a yz the ttr90 and yz125-250 89-95 and all yz80 pegs will botly straight on

Mainline - piccies would be great mate.  I have exactly the same set up.  Bought copies of the new ones.  Pin diameter is 10mm.  I could have drilled out the brackets, but I thought I'd rather have more meat on the bracket than in the pin, so I have shimmed the old bolt to 10mm.

Shortening the spring is the thing that has me buggered.  I have bought new springs for the modern pegs, but have no idea how to shorten them.  Any pointers greatly received.  John from "Project YZ" has done the same, but he doesn't describe how to shorten the spring.  I looked at other springs, but couldn't really find anything to fit properly

Not mine, not rich enough, a mate off mine does a bit of testing for them.  Like i said i think they are a special I can find out if you want.

Hopefully this photo works, all the components are black so it's a little hard to see.

Basically it's the original yz bracket drilled out to suit the bigger diameter bolt. The aftermarket peg had a few mm sliced of the tube section so it would slide into the old bracket.

The springs are modern YZ and have one too many coils to fit inside the old bracket. I didn't have the spring hook through the slot in the back of the old bracket as per original, but decided to hook it over the side of the bracket instead.

I eyeball engineered the amount i needed to take off by comparing it to the old spring and guesstimating how much length I needed to get the new hook over the side of the bracket. Then I just cut through the last coil, held the spring in a vise and bent the end over a piece of flat bar with an American Screwdriver

I can take it apart and post another pic if you need ?

That peg is identical to mine.  I was concerned about breaking the spring when bending it, but obviously that's not a problem.  I'll give it a go myself soon.  The springs are about $16 each  - what could possibly go wrong

use pre 1995 yz125 foot pegs they bout straight into the yz82-95 and with a little trip fit the d-h models more mabye
