whats the go with the Tm 250 forks ? usually on the Yams you can just fire the rattle gun in the allen key and she is off ?  on the TM forks the seals are shot and i need to get them out, if i ratlle out the allen it seems to spin after its unlocked, i assume the whole damper is spinning inside.  If i look down the tube i can see the top of it is round with 2 opposing flats maybe 12mm ? any how is there a specila tool neede or a trick to getting the inner out ? i tried to creat some lock by pulling on the inner but the allen bolt underneath wouldnt drop out.

Whats the trick or am i missing somthing here ?

I assume they be the same as other early suzy and i have never had difficulty at all with the allen.

can only suggest  pulling on the shaft to get that tension.

FWIW I did have a prob with an early yamaha AG bike years ago and  we used the handle from an old windup bottle jack as the square drive fitted perfectly

You can easily fabricate a tool to do it, but just put the springs and caps back on, compress the fork and it should hold it well enough to undo the bolt. If not then the tool will be necessary. I made one out of a length of solid tube and machined a slot in the end, but it was pretty heavy duty!!!

I usually do it like graham says. Drain the oil, put the spring and cap back in, put in vice and compress while using a rattle gun. Stubborn bolts usually loosen after a few goes in clockwise and anti clockwise directions.

yep i thought it might be a slot type thing, just i did the usually last minute thng and pulled the forks, but we race on the weeknd and you guessed it im getting no where fast.  i had a go at it at pitmans today and i had a guy pulling on it and there was no such tool there,  are you saying it should be a pushing force that locks up the damper from turning ?  i did one fork appart and one fork still together and both turned and the allen bolt got so far then just spun, i dont have long enough arms to see if you turn it wehter it moves inside.  the little side bleed screw dont act as a pin does it ?

i have never had problems with early bolt style forks, swhich is why i wondered if there was some kind of hidden screw or somthing.

the inside is spinning so i just need to hold it some how.  I dont have the facilties here to make a tool, although i like the jack handle idea, but not sur ei have anything like that, ( may old L300 van did :OP)

Compression with the spring in normally works, I have made special holding tools but you could try a broom handle shoved in there and push down on as you use a rattle gun. Not quite a holding tool but I have used it with sucess.

I've done the broom handle thing too. Box spanner or hollow tube, squished to the right size and with a broom handle hammered in the other end. Basically, you just gotta hold that damper rod still. A spanner to hold it, or compression via fork springs, and away you go. If it won't move with all of that, I'd go buy some more forks!   ;D

woohoo.  thanks everyone for the ideas and offers of help.

I followed the instructions and compressed and wammo# biff %&, Bam.

came off like a hooker.

Think it was being sure that was holding me back, i have had bad experiences with forcing things and blind screw  ::)
