Hi Guys what can you all tell be about a

BSA Royal Styar 1968 5oocc

and what to look out for . Eg thing the stuff up and
thing that are Hard to Get ?????

1969 BSA 500cc A50 Royal Star
Following Triumph?s lead, BSA turned to unitary construction for its range of twins as the 1960s dawned, launching the all-new 500cc A50 and 650cc A65 ?Star? models in January 1962. The basic architecture of the preceding A7/A10 models was retained, so the new engine remained an air-cooled parallel twin with 360-degree crankshaft and single camshaft mounted at the rear of the cylinder block. The cycle parts remained much as before. When the range was revised for 1965, the touring twins were renamed ?Royal Star? (A50) and ?Thunderbolt? (A65) respectively and, together with the Lightning and Spitfire sports roadsters, received the superior two-way damped front fork from the off-road Victor model and a two-pipe exhaust system, the Siamesed exhaust used previously having been dropped.
Unit construction replacement for the A7, that has little vibration and lacks in performance. A good looking bike which is reliable( because it's hard to thrash them). , if not sluggish machine. Became the Royal Star in 1965 after a brief sporting flurry as the A50C ‘Cyclone’ and A50CC ‘Cyclone Clubman’, and then as the ‘Wasp’ which was mainly for the USA.
other info I could find, plain bearing on timing side of crank can wear thus reducing oil pressure to other bearings
and the best feature of the unit construction was that there was less places for oil to leak out off ;D

A Royal Styar is arr somewhere you keep the royal pigs.  Royal STAR.  Later unit construction twin BSA noted for the fact they leaked ...less... oil than the earlier A series machines.

A nice, polite unit 500. No racer, and no rocket. But well maintained and cared for, a pleasant enough roadie, with a nice exhaust note.
Nostalgia's not what it used to be....
