EI Carbie Needles/jets
« on: January 18, 2009, 09:02:06 am »
I am in need of some help. I am trying to set up one of my EI carbies and can't identify the size of alot of the needle/jets that I have. The original numbers on them appear to have been printed, and over the last 30 year, most have fadded to the point that they are un-readable, even with a magnifing glass. Does anyone have any details on the physical size/dimensions of the various sized needles. By eye I can pick the difference between the very rich and very lean needles, and I would like get the entire set back into the correct order so I can re-mark them with their correct sizes. Then I will have a chance at getting the carbie set up correctly.

i might have what you want. will look now.......

i have a number of EI listngs and the only thing i can find out is the numbers of the needles. it doesnt say what the numbers mean. the needles go from 3 to 12

i have listings of different size EI carbys for 2 and 4 strokes and what needle sizes they came with. each carby came with 3 different size needles.

i have exactly the info you want but in Lectron which is no good to you. i actually thought that was an EI catalogue i was thinking of.

EI was made by S&W i think and S&W im pretty sure is now Progressive suspension usa. maybe they have some info although they only specialize in suspension now.

Col,
You've probably been there, but did you try polishing the area over the number with super fine wet and dry paper or similar ?     The paper needs to be wrapped around something like a six inch steel rule so that it stays FLAT.   The trick is to use it Dry so that there is no oil or solvent to lift the gunk out of the number, and to do it the way Porcupines make Love.  ;D      Polish just enough to clean up the surface - the number needs to remain dark for obvious reasons.             Cheers,    T250.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have the original setup setup guide and application charts from when I first played around with these carbies back in the late 70's, plus a full set of needles/metering rods.

I tried youy idea T250K, but allas still could not read the number on the needle that I cleaned.

I will see if I can measure them, then try and sort them into order by doing some comparisons, hopefully I will be able to identify and re-number them using the the nubmers from the couple that can be read.
