Pursang Mk6 350 Head wanted
« on: May 06, 2009, 09:47:20 am »
Sorry to do a WANTED in the main forum but the relevant section seems useless unless people look in there so I figured I would try this as surely there is a decent spare head out there somewhere.

Not being too well versed in sourcing Bully bits yet, I am after parts for a good original old 104 I just took delivery of, so please if someone has parts for one, especially a cylinder head, I would like to here from them. I also need some help with a set of bottom triples for a 135 Mk8 250 and most likely more stuff as time goes on.

Someone well up on Bultaco's might be able to enlighten me re the capacity of the 104 too. Most stuff I have read says they were a 350 but a VMX spread on Chris Nicholsons' bike stated it was a 325 - were there two capacities or is it the case of the actual capacity was 325cc but the factory thought '350' sounded better?

Any help or leads appreciated

Pretty sure the #104 would be a 325. I got allot of differing info researching my #106 but eventually it came down to the standard bore size at 83.2mm being smaller than the later models so i assumed it was a 325 as opposed to a 350.

Dave,
The 104 engine was Bore 83.2 x 60 stroke. Exact capacity was 326.03. As it was their first big bore they called it a "350". The weight of a 250 and the power of a 500, yeah right !
The head has a compression ratio of 10.5:1.(stamped underneath the front of the head) I think it will be hard for you to find the correct head as it is a bit of a one of engine.
The best place to find a head and your tripples is unfortunately Evilbay, there have been a few MK8 tripples on there lately and usually dont sell for much,Postage will cost you twice the item cost.Good luck.

Thanks Moto and Steve

I should have gone and looked at the back of a great little book I bought off evilbay only afew weeks ago to assist in throwing a bit of Bully knowledge my way re the Pursangs. It's currently for sale from the author who will even sign it for you when you buy - how cool is that!

The book has a full appendix of models and specs at the back that I had clean forgotten about and yep you are spot on guys - seems Snr Bulto bumped up the capacity a smidgen.

I've always liked the look of the early 'sangs - sort of like a greyhound and a good memory from Frasers shop at Homebush along side Ducati's and in the pits at Dargle but never thought I would own one let alone something so original (shame about the head fins?)

You guys are most likely right - evilbay is my best chance as I have had bugger all luck getting much from the forum and the Seppos seem to wreck out virtually anything. Right now there is a Lobito (yeah I know - not really highly sought after, lol) being wrecked with only 144 MILES on the clock !!!

Cheers

Dave,

If it's missing a few fins, i saw a thread in the tech section by jgantor (i think) where they replaced some fins by building a weld until it made up the fin. Made a pretty damn good job of it to. Might be worth looking into as an alternative while searching evilbay.

I think the head repair may be the way to go if no one has a spare head too

An easy job, just not original but who cares - might even leave it as is and have a good conversation starter, lol!
