Subanator - dumb nick but have been using this around on the boards for a while now from modified Subaru's I have had.
Sold the Subaru's for now, allow more time to play with bikes, particularly Twinshock class Trials. I have a 76 TY 175 to play with (and modify).
Found this board useful for like period knowledge and I relate to the topics here from similar dirt bike experience.
In the late '70s as a kid I won an art contest, and put the prize money towards art studies? - no way, it was for my first dirt bike, a TS 100S, a safe choice by my dad. This progressed to a MT125, then modified it with a power pipe for MX. (Got to ride around on my dads TS185 and brothers RM 125N and RM 250T, later still his '86 CR500). I then bought my first brand new bike in the first year of my apprenticeship and got a '81 KLX250, modified for Enduro's with 275cc Morawaki Piston kit, WhitePower pipe and SuperTrapp muffler, high lift cam. Then progressed to my first big bore - a brand new '85 KTM 600 EXC, probably the best bike I ever owned, being an out of the crate racer. Got more serious with Enduro's with a couple of late '80's KDX 200's, then a '93 WR 250 Yamaha. Screwed my knee up a couple of times real bad and dropped out racing then riding. Had a traily for work '81 XL 500S and a '83 RG 250.
Racing experience over this time included MX, Enduro, Flat track, 2x Desert Races and the odd trial, Pony Expresses and natural terrain MX, and trail riding.
Got the bug for a low key dirt bike competition, and headed into safe Trials 5 years ago with a '96 Beta 250, then got a '03 Beta 270, and now a Yamaha TY 175.
Got a DT 175C I use for donor parts and will eventually restore, along with a '37 BSA 500 OHV that I started to restore 15 years back.
Funny thing is, my trailer is the only item that I have had the longer than any bike or car I have had - 20 years!
