Husky 500 - leaking gear change seal

Happy New Year to everyone.

I am looking for a modern-day fix to an old problem.

The gear change on ny 83 Husky consists of a groove with an O-ring. Its fine for the first ride, then starts weeping, leaking, pouring after that.

There is a groove at the bottom of that shaft, b ut if you place a 2nd O - ring there, then the shaft doesn't get lubricated, and shifting suffers as a result.
I have heard of a fix of widening the machined groove at the top of the shaft in order to fit 2 x O-rings.

Any other suggestions please...

Was a fix in the husky mag for a leaking countershaft seal for various models circa 83 i think.

 Nice new shiney safetypin inserted tween the seal and the shaft and remove the little bit of crap thats allowing the oil to come out.
Voila . works and costs  bugger all. Perhaps same issue with the selector shaft.
