It's madness what it costs now to restore a bike back to brand new original condition. Paying crazy prices on ebay for rare nos parts makes it hardly worth doing.

Well, yes and no, NO  I would never do it again !, and yes it is worth it when you put your hands on it when its finnished and re-live the moment when I was 14 picking one of these sweethearts up from Brian Collins. ;D, also a hell of a felling of acomplishment. :) I Just love it. :-*

The sentimental value makes resto's like yours worthwhile but as for restoring a fleet of bikes it's just too expensive going on current nos prices and also the availability of some parts makes it very difficult.

that is simply awesome - I envy you - I had enough dramas with my 78 Honda and that was no where near NOS/Concourse etc!  I can just imagine the amount of work that went into it - well done!

Evo550 for what i paid for my 490 i could've had 2 for under $7000. If people are happy to pay $7000+ for the vintage bike they want then good on 'em.

I think that if you took that original $1378 from 28 years ago and expanded it to todays values that $7000 resto would be pretty good value for money.

That's the good thing about vintage bikes.. They're cheaper than a new modern bike and you pretty much always get your money back.

if you are into modern gear and serious you have to update all the time vintage you have just as much if not more fun and you can stick with one bike forever  :)

Exactly! I've got a modern bike that i update every couple of years which aint cheap, where as i've been riding the same maico for 8 years and it's only gone up in value!

Im really happy riding my pe400 all the time it keeps with all the new stuff and you have just as much fun and you get to see their heads spin when they hear the big two stroke over their four strokes  :)
