an option for better plastics
« on: November 02, 2008, 10:07:43 AM »
for those who are looking for better quality plastics then there is another option. i have the latest Maier MFG catalogue and they have a page on some of the vintage plastics they make for honda, suzuki, kawasaki and yamaha

at the bottom of the page it says

Vintage Supplers
if you cant find what your looking for in our vintage/post vintage listings, please check with one of the vintage specialists listed. Maier Manufacturing, Inc specializes in making custom products on an exclusive basis, for these customers

Bobs vintage/northwest maico/CZ - maico, CZ and early Honda elsinore - www.nwmaicoandcz.com
VMX racing - Honda CR - www.vmxracing.com
Nitemare racing -  Kawasaki KX - www.nightmare-racing.com
RE-mx - honda MR 50, XR 75 - www.re-mx.com
RTR Moto - Can AM - www.rtmoto.com
vintage dirt bike - Montesa - www.vintagedirtbike.net
vintage husky - Husqvarna & Manark - www.vintagehusky.com
vintage iron - husqvarna, Maico, CZ, Honda, yamaha - www.vintageiron.com
vintage MX - Can Am - no website listed, phone only - 703.729.1303
vintage suzuki - suzuki RM, TM - www.vintage-suzuki.com

also in the catalogue it says
Maier magic- let us put your idea in plastic
we specialize in producing custom work for our customers who need items produced on an exclusive basis. You do not need to order large quanities, and the tooling costs are minimal. if you have ideas or suggestions, please give us a call

i think this is a much more realistic option than trying to get the original bike manufacturers to do a re run of plastics that havent been made for 25 years.

Maier are crap, (for yz250/465) they dont fit properly, they arent even the same shape, but if you are happy with that, then go for it.
If at first you dont succeed, give up and drink beer

VMX Racing are a poor quality repo for the CR250M not even as good as DC! Shape is all out of wack, they crease if you look at them sideways and the color is all wrong.
He claims he makes them himself??
Looking fo a TZ750 anyone with any leads please PM

I bought my plastics through Les at Mainly Maico, he supplied me with vmx racing plastics. The 74 cr125 colour is wrong as they were originally painted from the factory so the colour in plastic is not made. I had a set of white plastics done for my '77 cr125 which were well made also. No issues here.
