Honda SL70 frame
« on: February 29, 2020, 07:55:14 pm »
Hi all.
I'm looking for a Honda SL70 frame and any frame bits I can get (wheels, guards, seat base, that sort of thing).
ANY condition. A long shot of course, but you never know what people have under the workbench or behind the shed....
Cheers,
Joe

Keep a Gumtree/FB/ePay search going, they do pop up when least expected  ;D

Just another update: stop looking for wheels and guards - got them! I also found a seat, but it is a) off an XL70 - slightly different shape - and b) totally turned to swiss cheese.... tried cleaning off al rust and attempted very carefully welding and brazing holes shut, but there just isn't enough metal left to make that work. So I decided to make a buck and some formtools and make a replica from flat steel instead. I think I can get it to match a good one I have on my first SL70K1, my current grandkids' bike. The rubber cushion of the XL seat will be able to be shaped to SL form and I'll sew a new seat cover in any case.....
Just about have all the bits for a K0 now. Lots of restoration work left to do: replating spokes and all bolts and nuts, hydroblasting all engine cases and some parts, checking all engine bits for wear etc. etc.
Frame is cleaned repaired and in for powder coating already.

You can buy OE quality new SL70 seats from a Thai eBay seller whose name escapes me.
I bought one for mine- might be K1- without the studs.
If you love it, lube it.

Yes, I have seen them from time to time. The postage cost has always put me off...
I can't find any at the moment, so I'll keep watching.
Thanks for reminding me.

Yeah, Shipping, post out of Thailand is a killer.

Some enterprising Aussie who is sick of the bar life there should set up a shopping forwarding business to Australia.
If you love it, lube it.

You going to do a project thread?
Some of we old geezers like a good Forum build, rather than Farcebook snippets  ;D

Maybe I could.... My projects just seem to take too long....

I'll try and remember to take photos of the build and see what I can do.
