PE250B internal pipe baffle
« on: March 24, 2018, 07:13:06 pm »
I've got a 250B and the internal baffle in the chamber has been removed.
I understand they take the edge off the noise and spread the power a bit. I don't want a fast fire breathing animal so I'd like to put a baffle back in as strange as it may sound.

Would anyone know the diameter of the hole in the original baffle?

Thanks

Brent

Do you mean the washer (ADR restricter)  that sits in the pipe just after it exits the manifold?. I honestly would not bother.

There's a baffle in the last cone of the chamber. The PE manual has a diagram showing the shape and where it is but not the size. Mine's been cut open and had it removed.
The front part of the pipe is clear.

its a sheet of preforated sheet moulded into the last part of the pipe. doesnt do too much to the power, i wouldnt worry about it. i cutr one out of a dx 200 once but didnt really notice the supposedly big increase in power i was promised. wasnt much louder either.

Are you 100% sure though? A lot of people read the Clymer manual and get obsessed about removing baffles and restricters but not all of the pipes had these. So even though it may look like its been cut open, someone could have opened it and but not actually found anything to remove. The Clymer actually just says the 78 175 has the large baffle washer. Later 80-82 models have a layer of mesh spot welded to the inside walls of the pipe though. I sm not 100% sure about 77-79 though. The mesh is mostly to stop the rattly/tinny sound.

You really need to find someone who has actually removed a baffle from a 250B and can 100% confirm it before going about attempting to put something back in that may not have been there in the first place. That's what i would do anyway.

My PE175 had a mesh in the belly wall of the pipe, after removal the only difference was a barely noticeable noise increase.

Brent look for the spot weld marks in the chamber to see if it had one

Stick an old speedo cable up the end of the pipe,,that's how I found mine...As mentioned, I've cut one open assuming it had the restrictor but alas it didn't...
Ps..The One I pulled out had a 20mm hole..pe175 though.
I'm picking up a "B" shortly,,,it has a very straight system on it, if you need any measurement etc let me know.
