For anyone interested in the best starter bike for trying Vintage MX with a bit of Vinduro thrown in, I commend you to consider my KLX 250.
I already know it is not powerful and the YZ and RM Evo brigade will be streets ahead as quick as you can blink but if you want a bike that inspires confidence, can ride around the outside of all but the best Evo pilots, then this is the bike for you. Just keep the throttle pinned, bask in the fantastic engine breaking and love the precise steering.
Many upgrades on this bike. It has all new plastics, new clutch, top end fully rebuilt, new air filter, new throttle and clutch cables, new brake shoes, Gazi shocks, new Mikuni VM pumper carb, new full stainless steel and larger exhaust and end can, new throttle, Pro Taper bars and new Pirelli Starcross MX tyres. The pipe, plastics, shocks and carb alone cost over $2000. Add that to the cost of the bike and the thousands spent getting motor and clutch rebuilt, the asking price is not unreasonable in my opinion.
I'm asking $2500 for a bike you can ride in Evo 250 and Evo 4 Stroke. It handles and steers perfectly and once your confidence is up then consider one of the two strokes.
Some other details that may be interesting, the Gazi shocks are using the cheaper Sport X bodies as the remote reservoir VMX Hyper X shocks with remote reservoirs would not fit inside the side covers, nor would they fit upside down whereas the non reservoir Sport X shocks would fit mounted upside down but these shocks don't have the extra special nitrogen/oil valving to be used upside down so the good people made a custom set using the internals of the Hyper X and the outer body of the Sport X.
The stainless pipe was built by Tranzac Exhausts and use the current technology to thicken the internal diameter in the mid section of the pipe, so the pipe tapers up to a broader section as it connects to the end can. This is also polished stainless steel.
The new carb is a Mikuni VM34 pumper accelerator carb. The original carb will also be supplied to the new owner.
