Aluminium powdercoat swingarm and clear powder coat fork legs
« on: August 17, 2017, 01:17:51 pm »
Hi,

I want to get the swingarm powdercoated on the YZ125G.  I had my XR500 swingarm powdercoated silver once, and it looked grey.
Has anyone had any luck powder coating a swing arm silver/aluminium and looks like the original e/f/g painted swingarms.

Also, has anyone had their fork legs clear powder coated.

Cheers,

I used to powdercoat alot of bike parts when I was in the game & it never looks the same..
The other thing is the condition of the part you want done..if it's in real good clean nik then the powder coater maybe inclined to just clean the part & dip it in alloy etcher/cleaner/primer (forgot what that is called) like what they dip alloy window frames in.. & then apply the powder..If the arm is scuffed up (25 years old) then the powder coater will not want his job coming back so he'll sand blast the part & being old alloy the sand blaster will remove more than you bargained for & the finished product will be pretty ruff....We used to use old sand,  which was like dust for jobs like this,  it's still abrasive but no where near as bad as new blast sand...probably better off with paint.

I Hydro blast them and then get it powder coated . Works for me .
VMX shocks , We don't just sell them - I design and produce them individually for you since 1989.

Thanks guys.  I think i am overthinking it.  I want the factory finish on the arm and fork legs with clear coat over the top. I may just get the finish i want, and shoot it with clear coat myself.  Guaranteed to get the result i want.

Factory finish would have been Anodized on the swingarm I reckon.

Hi LWC, i have the G and K arms.  The G is aluminium coloured paint over aluminium.  The K is anodized aluminium. Both are original untouched.
But i am thinking i will recon the G arm and give it a brushed factory look, and then clear coat it.

Cheers,
