Good degreaser that doesn't stain alloy.

I've been using Kenco Heavy Duty Degreaser lately, I'm very with happy how good it works without staining alloy parts.  It's a great price, I've seen it in Bunnings & Supercheap.

Just read the label carefully, if it say's caustic any where don't use it, especially on alloy.

When it comes to cleaning, there are two types of Aluminium Alloy.
And two types of jobs: cleaning a whole finished bike or cleaning parts for a repair or resto.

Anodised and non anodised.
I prefer to use(and watch) a serious cleaner for non anodised parts.

The trouble with anodised alloys is that a serious cleaner immediately shows any opening breaches in the anodising.

I have heaps of this Kenco cleaner in the shed.

Years back I made the mistake of filling the 60 cleaning station with it.
I also made the mistake of leaving a heap of valuable crankshafts submerged in it, thinking they will be safe there while they soak.

Even I make mistakes, No No, its true I call it learning and the lesson for the day is that it is Hygroscopic and draws moisture out of high humidity coastal air to descend and settle on the top of the crank journals to actively rust whilst submerged.
Expensive lesson for that day that one

chemicals are amazing.... I worked in a bike shop and there was a bike cleaner in a drum. I fixed a chain issue for a bloke then decided to quickly clean my hand with some cleaner out of the drum. huuuge mistake..as soon as I felt it on my hands I thought sh*t this is straight naoh...took 20 minutes of rinsing to get it off my skin and my hands were raw for a week. dilution instructions are important.

I had to drain and remove the pump from a auto tank that had been left for a couple of years with ethanol blend in it.

The old fuel ran down my arms etc.

My skin burn't for 4 and half days, no matter how many baths and showers I had.
Wondered ever since how two year old vented off ethanol blend would go as stripper or severe soaking cleaner for various metals?

Anyhow, this thing ain't going to paddle itself


and yes, I do envy the cash flow of the unretired(without children and mortgages that is )
