'74 shock length
« on: August 23, 2016, 10:21:03 am »

Can anyone tell me the stock eye to eye shock length on a 1974 400 maico? The one with the shocks moved forward.

Is it best to stick with that length with replacement shocks?

Cheers

Stock shocks were 13.5" Koni's with 100lb/inch springs.  To much longer than that upsets the steering angle. Also if you are going to race it you need to travel limit the shock to keep the 4" wheel travel.

Thanks sleepy. I've got a set of 340mm shocks, sounds like a perfect fit.

HI.  340mm is spot on . What Shocks are you using .   Spring Rate and ride Height are Very important.

All so get some new GP Fork Springs from Chippys .            As the old Dual Rate ones would have

Hey Nebo.... got a set of ohlins but I think the springs will be too soft. I forget the metric measurement but about 80lbs in the old money iirc.

I should probably start a new thread, but being a lazy devil..... does anyone have any advice re rebuilding corte cosso shocks on an '81 490? I've read posts about possibly rebuilding them with ohlins parts but nothing definitive. Looking for an 'affordable' option. Cheers.

My solution would be go straight to Ohlins shocks. This is what is on my Maico 490
