Tyre sizes for IT175
« on: May 29, 2016, 12:24:37 pm »
Helping a mate get his IT175 Regoed.

We need to know what the correct rear size should be?

It has a massive one on it at the moment, that rubs. Its got to go.

Thanks

Just looking on the Prime Eight web,

They have a Road legal "Vee Rubber" listed as a 3.50(4.10)
So I assume that means its 4.10 wide across the Knob width when inflated?

That wouldn't be two narrow for a little 175, would it?

4.10s are a 4.00 with a lower profile (basically a 100/90 in modern sizing).

Those Vee Rubber ones aren't too bad while the rubber is new/soft. They seem to go hard faster than most and the grip really disappears once that happens.

I have found several times that there is no difference between a 3.50 and 4.10 but a 4.00 is usually bigger than both. If you look at a lot of manufacturers sites they list the rolling diameter. IRC do a 4.00 'TR8' which gets good reviews but they are a little harder to find and about double the price of that Vee Rubber.

Grateful for that info Nathan and Leith, gives us a couple of other things to consider. Thanks.
Might not seem like much, but we all want to feel we have made the best choice and got the best bang for needs and $'s

I wish I had a chart to show which Brand tyres use the old total width measuring system and which brands now
use the case measuring plus rubber and Knobs system?

From memory in metric 100 aspect rati0 width is from the carcase and 90 aspect ratio is from the knobs. I have a good chart/doc that explains all this but its not on computer and i will have to scan it unless i can find it online.
I think this may be it, i have it in an old printed catalogue

Everyone except Michelin uses the case size, AFAIK.
Michelin is moving toward normal sizing. All their newer models seem to use conventional sizing, and I've seen older models with stickers for the normal size.

Unreal, thanks. That explains why the rear is ridiculous, it is a 120 Mitchy, on a 175 ::) (rubbing everywhere) and thanks for that chart thing too Leith. Saved 8) . i think I will print/ laminate and stick on the wall.

We have decided to keep the budget in check and stay with the El-cheapo Vee-Rubber,
But put decent tubes and rim locks in, If you are watching this Prime Eight?
We will have some of these front and rear 3mm tubes too, thanks.

Would have to be more puncture resistant than 1.6mm tubes.
Surely,
Cheers.

Kenda have some smaller sizes, Trackmastes are not too bad and are dot.
If at first you don't succeed, lower your standards.
