Repairing seat foams.
« on: August 09, 2008, 08:42:40 pm »
I have a seat with bits of the foam ripped out.  I have got some new foam from an auto upholsterer that I intend use to patch the seat by glueing in and then triming to shape.  What is the best way to cut the foam so I can glue in patch up blocks and trim to shape?  Do Forum members have tried and proven methods.

I cant find a replacement foam and a NOS seat is $400 so I need to do a repair.  Cheers

That's basically what the upholsterer who did my foam used, a carving knife and then an electric sander.

My seat foam was actually made out of layers of foam laminated together and then shaped. The guy in question does most of his work for people who want custom seats made either for improved comfort over the crappy stock foam (and it is crappy, on road bikes especially) or because they have some sort of orthopaedic problem.
