RM125A/B Gearing Advice
« on: August 27, 2015, 03:24:50 pm »
What gearing are you guys running on the little screamer ?
Std is 14/60, but I see an article in an old dirt bike magazine where they suggested 51/52 rear and thought that was a big difference to std
Its a new addition to the family and don't have much time to try different combos.
Any suggestions appreciated

Depending on the tuning could be a good thing bad if it has no over rev

Standard for the RM125M is 60T,  RM125A is 57T & RM125B is 59T.
51/52T would be like adding 2 teeth to the front sprocket. Not a good idea, probably a typo.
It was probably meant to be 61/62T.
51/52T would save you gears as you'd only use 1st & 2nd but fry your clutch to hell just to get it moving. hahaha

I remember when the A's first came out, the big comment at the time was how low the gearing was. It was so bad that at most tracks top gear was reached with max revs well before the end of the straight. Nearly everyone who had an A dropped the size on the rear or added two teeth on the front just to get the legs needed. Not a typo I think.

when I raced the B std gearing on tight tracks like snake gully and always had 2 more front sprockets for tracks like Morgan and Pt Pirie usually 1 more tooth on the front did it and ring its bloody neck  ;)

Could the 51/52t sprockets that were suggested be for 520 and 60t sprocket be for the stock 428 size chain ?
