1986 RM250 rotor nut left hand thread?
« on: May 20, 2015, 11:44:50 am »
Manual doesn't say anything about the rotor nut on a 1986 RM250.

Anyone know for sure if its LH or RH thread?

Also I bought a rotor puller from ebay but it doesn't look like its going to fit - its a 27x1.0 Lh Ext. but was listed as correct for 86 RM250.

Appreciate comments on that too :)

Should be anti clockwise thread. The puller you've probably bought is to suit the earlier style flywheels with three bolt holes so it's not gunna work.

Can't believe I cannot find a flywheel puller for this in Australia...its the 8 hole disc type probably universal with a lot of other early 2 strokes. Anyone have any info to help?

Looks like it's R/H thread to me, you can just see the thread lead-in in the nut and on the end of the shaft. Most end-of-crank threads on the left side of motor are R/H thread, only the R/H side of crank like some of the primary drive nuts are L/H thread.

I think you would need a 'smacker' puller. A thick bit of plate with a 20mm nut welded to it and 16mm hole in the centre. Then 2 holes for bolts to go into the rotor M6?? tapped holes. A bit of bronze between the end of the crank and the 20mm bolt that will go into the nut. Then preload the bolt and then hit it with a copper hammer, preload again smack with hammer rinse repeat until it comes off.
Jesus only loves two strokes

That sounds really makeshift and dodgy ;D :D

Pretty sure I built this 3 bolt version in 86 for my 200, still use it today on other Kawasakis
