Husky steel triple clamps
« on: May 20, 2015, 03:57:08 pm »
I've often wondered how heavy the fabricated steel fork clamps are compared to the usual aluminum clamps.  If anyone has weighed the Husky parts I'd be interested in hearing what they found out.  I've got various 35mm alloy clamps around that I can weigh to compare with the Husky parts.

Also, if someone has taken a saw to the clamps what is the wall thickness of the steel, and also the overall thickness of the clamps?

If done right fabricated steel clamps could be as light or lighter as well as stiffer than an aluminum clamp.  I'm curious if Husky managed that (or not).

When I built the last version of my Laverda F750 racer I made some fabricated steel clamps, and they seemed reasonably light and stiff:

thanks,
Michael
